Bed bugs are very, very hard to get rid of. We are specialists in eradicating bed bugs!!
There have always been bed bugs in Auckland but the numbers have dramatically increased over the past few years, probably due to increased air travel. As Kiwi's have never really had a problem with bed bugs in the past, there is little knowledge about them and how to treat them.
What are Bed Bug's
Bed Bug's are small (think apple seed), oval shaped, wingless blood suckers. They vary in colour according to when they last fed. If they haven't fed for sometime they will be a quite pale (nearly transparent) colour. If they have recently fed they will be a reddish brown colour (like the image to the side).
Bed bugs hide in cracks and crevices (i.e. folds in mattresses, bed frames) during the day and come out at night to feed. They are attracted to the body heat and the carbon dioxide that we breath out during sleep. When they feed they inject an anaesthetic so rarely disturb us while feeding. Indications of their presence can be dried blood spots in bedding and painful itchy bite marks.
Infestations can increase quickly with bed bugs laying up to 200 eggs throughout their 12 month lifecycle.
